Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayern Munich preview: Leaders out to maintain perfect record

Frankfurt have proven to be a must-watch team this season for all the good and the bad in their opening eight competitive games. All of their matches have produced a minimum of four goals, while they have netted at least three times in four of their five top-flight games. They started the Bundesliga season with commanding victories over Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim, before they fell to a 3-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.

They followed their 6-4 league win with a disappointing trip to the Spanish capital in midweek, as they slumped to a heavy 5-1 loss against Atletico Madrid. It was a result that gave Dino Toppmöller’s charges a brutal reality check after cruising to their own 5-1 victory over Galatasaray on matchday one of the Champions League league phase. 

Frankfurt will have to quickly pick themselves up for the almighty test against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich. The hosts may be able to take confidence from the fact that they have won three of their last six meetings with Bayern at Deutsche Bank Park (D1, L2). They have also taken four points from their last two head-to-head home games, pulling off a stunning 5-1 win in December 2023, before playing out a 3-3 draw in October 2024. 

The home side remain without long-term absentee Jessica Ngankam, while Rasmus Kristensen is not ready to return to action just yet.

Bayern have made a flawless start to the 2025/26 season with nine consecutive victories, including five wins in the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany’s side have racked up 22 goals in the opening stages of the Bundesliga campaign, making them the league’s highest scorers ahead of Frankfurt. They added four goals to their tally in last Friday’s home clash against Werder Bremen, which saw Harry Kane net a brace alongside efforts from Jonathan Tah and Konrad Laimer in a 4-0 victory.
