Chelsea’s revival under Enzo Maresca continued at the weekend, as the Blues made it three wins on the bounce in all competitions with a commanding 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Following impressive triumphs over Benfica in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Premier League, a youthful Chelsea side once again delivered, with Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James all finding the net.
There were some nervy moments at the back — and yet another red card, this time for Malo Gusto — but overall, it was another encouraging display from a side seemingly growing in confidence.
Still, with defensive injuries mounting, Maresca is said to be keen on further reinforcements — and could turn to a familiar name for Premier League fans.
According to a new report from Il Messaggero, via La Lazio Siamo Noi, Chelsea have expressed interest in signing former Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares, who currently plays under Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.
The Portuguese defender endured a mixed spell in North London and during a loan stint at Nottingham Forest, but since his move to Serie A in 2024, he has rediscovered his form. Tavares has registered nine assists in 36 games for Lazio, becoming a key attacking outlet down the left flank.
Described as “super fast” by former Premier League goalkeeper Shay Given, Tavares has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Juventus and Chelsea, both of whom have reportedly “tested the waters” over a possible deal.
Lazio, however, are said to value the 25-year-old at around £43 million, which could prove a stumbling block for the Blues. With Marc Cucurella playing superbly, however, Chelsea may instead want to opt for a cheaper back-up at left-back.
Still, Tavares’ resurgence under Sarri — and his familiarity with English football — could make him a tempting target as Maresca looks to fine-tune his growing squad.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
