Chelsea are interested in Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly. The 19-year-old is one of Arsenal’s brightest young stars, making 23 Premier League appearances during his breakout campaign last season.
He has found minutes difficult to come by this season however, making nine substitute appearances in the Premier League so far. He started just 5 games across all competitions for Arsenal.
England boss Thomas Tuchel has warned the player he must play regular football to be considered for England’s World Cup squad next summer, prompting many clubs to keep tabs on his situation. Arsenal still see Lewis-Skelly as an important member of the squad and a key part of their long term plans.
Arsenal reportedly have no intention of parting ways with the player, but Football Insider has reported that Chelsea are keeping tabs on his situation in case circumstances change. The Blues are not expected to make a concrete offer for the player any time soon, but are keeping track of developments.
Lewis Skelly was a second half substitute for Arsenal against Chelsea in Sunday’s cagey London derby. The match ended 1-1 despite Chelsea playing with 10 men for more than an hour after Moises Caicedo saw red for a challenge on Mikel Merino.
Lewis-Skelly’s counterpart Marc Cucurella was applauded for his performance against Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal in midweek, and followed that with a solid showing against Bukayo Saka on Sunday. For this reason, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke says Chelsea won’t see Lewis-Skelly as a priority, and that they have “no chance” of landing a player from a rival club.
While Chelsea will continue to track the situation of Lewis-Skelly, they are targeting a new centre-back as their main priority. Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is a reported January target for the Blues as they look to sort out their defensive woes.
Former player Marc Guehi is a known target of Chelsea as well, as is Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano.
