Chelsea appear to be moving closer to securing the signature of Rennes sensation Jeremy Jacquet, with personal terms reportedly agreed between the 20-year-old and the Blues.
While the deal is not yet fully sanctioned by the clubs, negotiations over a fee are ongoing.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, per The Sun, Jacquet has signed off on personal terms and is eager to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. The young Ligue 1 defender has been hailed as “insane” by scout Jacek Kulig for his skill and potential.
Rennes are said to be demanding a club-record fee in the region of £56 million, which would surpass the £52 million received for Jeremy Doku when he moved to Manchester City.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior will need to meet that valuation if the club is to land their man.
The Blues currently sit sixth in the Premier League, just two points behind Liverpool, and remain in contention for silverware with an EFL Cup second-leg tie against Arsenal to come after a 3-2 home defeat.
Securing Jacquet could be key to Rosenior’s aim of finishing in the top four and ensuring Champions League football next season.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
