Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso has admitted that he is a keen admirer of Italy colleague Riccardo Calafiori and his Arsenal teammates, and has explained why he and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella are currently among the best full-backs around.
The versatile Bianconeri gave an in-depth interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, published on Friday, during which he spoke about his goals for the 2025-26 season, his inspirations as a ‘utility’ player, and the upcoming Derby della Mole against Torino.
During his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cambiaso was asked what he made of the recent comments made by Bianconeri head coach Luciano Spalletti describing him as a ‘3D player’.
He replied: “I took it as a compliment, as a different way of describing my characteristics. I think that that’s the way football is going these days, occupying the spaces that we create on the pitch.”
Cambiaso was then asked if he sees any other players with similar characteristics to himself and Calafiori, to which he replied: “There’s a lot, if I had to name a name, I’d say Calafioroi. He starts at full-back and ends up in attack.
“That’s how it is in general with Arsenal. I watch them, I study them, and if you asked Spalletti, I’m sure he’d also say: ‘Yes, I watch the Gunners’.”
Cambiaso was asked if there were any more examples that spring to mind, to which he answered: “Cucurella was also everywhere for Chelsea the other night.”
