Aston Villa considering resigning former ace as Malen replacement

Aston Villa are interested in signing Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham. Villa are on the market for a new forward after agreeing a deal to send Donyell Malen to Roma.

Abraham is also on the books at Roma, but is spending the season on loan with Besiktas. The 28-year-old is believed to have met the conditions of the loan to become a permanent Besiktas player, meaning Villa will have to negotiate a deal to prize him away from Turkey.

Sky Sports has reported that tentative discussions have started between the Villa and Besiktas, with personal terms not expected to be an issue. He is believed to be not the only player on Villa’s radar, and Unai Emery’s men will be hoping to conclude their business quickly as Malen’s move is nearing completion.

Abraham will have fond memories of Villa park, having enjoyed his most prolific season there while on loan from Chelsea during the 2018/19 season. He scored 25 goals in 37 appearances for the then Championship side, as Villa earned promotion back into the Premier League.

Abraham has Premier League experience, having been on the books at Chelsea from 2016-2021. After climbing through the youth ranks at the club, he spent five seasons in the first team where he scored 21 goals in 58 Premier League appearances.

Much of his Chelsea stint was spent on loan however, with loan spells at Bristol City and Swansea before his season with Villa. He then joined Roma in 2021 and has scored 26 goals in 84 appearances for the club.

The former England international has spent much of his Roma tenure on loan as well, with AC Milan and now Besiktas. Villa could be prepared to send a player the other way to soften the blow on Besiktas, with the Mirror reporting that summer signing Evann Guessand could be offered.
