During the summer, Aleix Garcia was heavily linked with a move to West Ham, but he ultimately stayed at Bayer Leverkusen.
In an interview with Spanish outlet Sport, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder confirmed that there was indeed interest and explained why the deal didn’t go through.
“There was interest and some conversations, but if it didn’t happen, it’s because it wasn’t meant to,” Garcia said.
“For me, the Champions League is key: I’ve worked very hard for it and playing in it was the most important thing. At that moment, Leverkusen and the Champions League came first.
“It was an interesting option, but I’m comfortable where I am. So for now, nothing – I’m very happy here.”
Looking ahead to the future – with his current contract running until 2029 – Garcia added:
“My focus today is on Leverkusen and competing at the highest level in the Champions League. If one day an offer comes that really improves on what I have and allows me to keep growing, it’ll be considered calmly. In the meantime, I’m working to be a starter, win titles here, and stay in the national team.”
