‘Have always known’ – Galliani praises Allegri for being the right man for Milan

Since Massimiliano Allegri returned to AC Milan earlier this year, results have certainly improved and Adriano Galliani has praised the Italian for this. 

The differences between this time last year and now are palpable. Ultimately, Milan have gone from a team in ruin to a team fighting for the Scudetto. In the space of a year, that is a terrific turnaround that deserves immense praise.

Of course, there are still issues to fix, but Allegri has had one mercato and who knows where he could lead the club to next year with another two mercatos of backing.

There were questions about how the former Juventus man may fare in the summer, and they were understandable. However, one man seemingly has always believed in Allegri. That, of course, is the former CEO Galliani, who was CM: Galliani’s Milan return far from certain – the offer he is considering to the club.

Today, he spoke to Tuttosport, via MilanNews.

We know he’s a big fan of 360-degree sports: a better opportunity than the World Sports Summit could not happen…

“A wonderful event, absolutely fantastic. It is a great pleasure to be here in Dubai for this first edition, but I already know that it will grow a lot in the coming years. There were fantastic speeches and speakers from all sports, not just football.

“We saw so many samples up close, a frankly beautiful thing. In Dubai, they are always very ahead in all the things they do.”

I make him smile for New Year’s Eve: Milan can win the Scudetto and Monza is launched towards returning to Serie A. Pairing possible?

“Tell me where I should put the signature, and I’ll do it immediately! That would be fantastic. They are the two teams of my life. Ten years of Monza as a boy, then 31 of Milan and 7 more of Monza: they are and will always be my two favourite teams.”

I imagine you were sure of the brilliant impact that Allegri bis would have had on the Rossoneri bench…

“Absolutely yes. I’ve always known and understood, since Max coached Cagliari, that he had the physique du role to lead Milan and he’s proving it. Life has changed with his return. Let’s not forget that Milan came eighth last year…”

What is special about Allegri?

“Some right coach, I’ve hit him. Allegri, certainly, and more recently also Palladino. Max has the right characteristics to coach a top club: technical, human and savoir-faire. Allegri is a great coach: I wouldn’t know how to define him otherwise.”

We are at the World Sports Summit, and yet at a certain point it seemed that they had teleported to Milanello for the coming and goings of Rossoneri legends present. What effect did it have to review your samples?

“Beautiful. There are so many here: from Kakà to Seedorf, passing through Baggio, Ronaldo and captain Maldini. If I think that in our management eight Ballons d’Or have passed by Milan, I have to say that it was something incredible what we did and lived.”

About these top players: which one was the most difficult to bring to Milan?

“It’s complicated to choose one in particular. I really mean. They were all difficult and important in their own way. However, complex deals that in the end all have come to life: this is the important thing. An anecdote? There would be so many things and stories to tell…”

He wrote the history of the transfer market with the famous shots of the Condor. Now the fans are dreaming of a purchase of their own to further raise the level of this Milan. What gift would you like in the Epiphany stocking for the Rossoneri team?

“I can’t be a simple fan after 31 years as CEO of Milan, so I apologize but I can’t answer you on this.”
