Tottenham hope to beat competition from Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid to the signing of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Spurs will reportedly be very active in January, and are known to be in the market for midfield and attacking reinforcements.

TeamTalk has reported that Tottenham are plotting an “ambitious” January transfer window in which they hope to prepared an offer for Wharton. The club were in for Wharton over the summer alongside United and Chelsea, but Palace were unwilling to entertain any approaches.

Palace were already reeling from the loss of Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, and were resigned to losing skipper Marc Guehi to Liverpool. A dramatic deadline day collapse prevented the latter move from happening, with Palace manager Oliver Glasner threatening to resign if the club continue to sell their top players.

This makes any move for Wharton or any Palace player in January very difficult to do, but TeamTalk adds that the right bid could yet prize Wharton away. Interest in Wharton has only intensified since the summer, with Manchester United in particular known to remain keen.

Wharton, alongside Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba are known to sit high on the wish list of United.

Tottenham have a short list of their own however, and it is believed Wharton sits firmly towards the top. Spurs are reportedly planning aggressive transfer windows in both January and next summer.

Wharton is seen as young and dominant midfielder to build a squad around. The England international is under contract at Palace until 2029, so the Eagles will demand a hefty fee in any negotiation.

Wharton is joined on Tottenham’s short list by Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretska who is out of contract this summer. Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Goretska in January, with the player reportedly keen to explore a move to the Premier League.

Spurs are also know to be on the market for attacking reinforcements. They were chasing Manchester City winger Savinho for much of the summer before the Brazilian signed a contract extension with City.

Savinho’s City teammate Omar Marmoush is also of interest to Tottenham as well as FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, and Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz. Tottenham are also keen on veteran Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen amid speculation surrounding the future of first choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
