Liverpool Transfer News: Reds eye £20m Semenyo alternative from Euro giants

Liverpool have reportedly identified a potential January target in the wake of their Antoine Semenyo chase going cold.

Semenyo’s immediate future has become a hot topic in recent days, with Chelsea publicly enquiring about the Ghanaian as his time at Bournemouth hangs in the balance.

But as Manchester City appear to be the winger’s top choice, it seems like interested clubs such as Liverpool will have to look elsewhere for attacking talent next month.

However, Semenyo is far from the Reds’ only option ahead of the January window, with a recent report claiming that a bargain deal from a Champions League club could be explored in the coming weeks.

According to Anfield Index, Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi is being ‘considered’ by the Premier League champions.

With attention appearing to switch away from Semenyo, it seems that Liverpool are after a more cost-effective move.

Anfield Index suggests that Liverpool, while not being frontrunners for the Bournemouth star, have reservations over his £65m price tag, which rises after 10th January.

Given that it will drop to around £50m in the summer, that could indicate, in any case, the Reds expect to be beaten to his signature early in the new year.

However, all is not lost as Arne Slot looks to salvage what he can from an underwhelming defence of their Premier League title.

Not only have Liverpool initiated contact with Adeyemi’s representatives, but he could be sold by Dortmund for around £20m – less than a third of the prospective cost of Semenyo.

The Ghanaian is two years older than Adeyemi, potentially making the Germany international a greater long-term prospect.

Of course, Semenyo has more experience in the Premier League, although Adeyemi has plenty in the Champions League, reaching the final with Die Schwarzgelben in 2024.

And amid the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield, replacing the Egyptian with a younger talent experienced at the top level surely ticks too many boxes for Liverpool not to pursue Adeyemi.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
