Max Allegri explains AC Milan changes for the Supercoppa Italiana against Napoli, but also reveals uncertainty over Santiago Gimenez and that controversial Como fixture in Perth.
Napoli director of sport Giovanni Manna shrugs off Kobbie Mainoo and Giacomo Raspadori updates, assuring they are ‘doing very well’ ahead of the Supercoppa with AC Milan.
“We are very satisfied with the success this event is having, so seeing the stadium sold out shows this process of internationalising Serie A is doing well, getting people accustomed to cheering on these Italian teams,” Simonelli told Sport Mediaset.
“Even walking around Riyadh, we saw people with Milan and Napoli shirts, they were very enthusiastic. This is all proof that our activities are having results.
“Milan-Como will be played in Perth on February 8 as planned. We met Infantino in Doha, it was a very cordial meeting as always. We had a series of doubts over some of the conditions that had been set, which we considered impractical, for example being asked to use Asian Federation referees, as we have great faith in our Italian referees.
“However, Pierluigi Collina reassured us on the quality of the Asian referees, and highlighted a couple of officials who could be assigned the game. That was the most difficult thing to accept, the biggest obstacle, but we have overcome that thanks to the reassurances of Collina.”
“This game is certainly difficult, as Napoli are a great team with dangerous players, so we must be focused for the whole match and play our football. We prepared very well, so we need to do it on the pitch now. We are ready. I think we need cool heads, so motivated, but concentrated, because these are big occasions and at times it’s difficult to keep that balance, but we are ready. Now comes the football.”
“We know it is a knockout match, so we want to impose our style of football and win the game in the 90 minutes. We got people a bit too accustomed to seeing Napoli win games, but we’re not really used to two consecutive defeats either and don’t like it. This will be an important match to show what we can do. I don’t want comparisons, but we lost some important players like Anguissa and De Bruyne, but despite the absences we showed that we are a great team, and aim to do that again.”
