Manchester United are keen on Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis. The 18-year-old has caught the eye of many top European clubs for his performances for Olympiacos, with United ready to formalize their interest.
The Red Devils sent scouts to watch Mouzakitis during Olympiacos’ 4-3 Champions League defeat against Real Madrid on November 26, and are understood to have tracked the player for the better of the year. Madrid are believed to be another interested suitor for the player.
Mouzakitis was the star performer for the Olympiacos youth side who won the UEFA Youth League in 2023-24. He was then promoted to the first team, where he helped them secure the Super League Greece title and Greek Football Cup the following season.
He was named in the Super League Greece Team of the Season at the end of the campaign and was also named Super League Greece Young Player of the Season. These achievements put the world on notice and earned him Tuttosport’s Golden Boy Web Winner, which honours the best Under-21 players competing in Europe.
Mouzakitis earned over 1million votes from fans across the world, beating out the likes of Real Madrid’s Arda Guller, Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham, and last year’s winner Kenan Yildiz of Juventus.
The Sun has reported that United could now be ready to swoop for the player, but face competition from Brighton who recently signed Mouzakitis’ fellow Olympiacos academy graduate Babis Kostoulas in a £29.7m deal last summer.
While Mouzakitis is currently valued at around £13m, his asking price is expected to skyrocket if clubs come calling in January. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Juventus, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the player Mouzakitis previously.
The Sun adds that the player would likely not be sold for less than £40m. United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly especially keen on the player as he is a left footed central midfielder.
He has been likened to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta for his style of play. Mouzakitis has scored two goals and added six assists in 49 appearances since his promotion to the Olympiacos first team.
