GFA President Kurt Okraku confident Welsh partnership will strengthen Ghana’s football future

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed delight following the confirmation of a new strategic partnership with the Football Association of Wales, calling it an important step forward in Ghanas mission to boost football development at all levels.

Okraku, who led a GFA delegation to Wales for official talks, believes the collaboration will enhance technical quality within Ghanas game by providing promising Ghanaian coaches with opportunities to learn in a highly respected development environment. This partnership marks another important step in our journey to build a stronger, smarter, and more globally connected Ghanaian game, he said.

Access to the FAWs established coach education pathways is expected to influence football development across the country, from youth systems to the senior national teams. By equipping coaches with fresh knowledge, best practices and improved methods, Okraku believes the partnership will directly shape the next generation of Ghanaian footballers and restore the countrys competitive strength internationally.

The GFA President stressed that aligning with institutions that value excellence and innovation is part of a broader plan to modernise Ghanas football structures. He noted that the success of Ghanaian players around the world reflects a deep talent base that must be supported with progressive technical training and international exposure for those guiding their development.

Okraku also praised the FAW leadership for their willingness to collaborate and their belief in the value of shared learning. He said both nations recognise that football thrives when associations learn from one another and create opportunities for diverse competition.

Entering 2026, a World Cup year for Ghana, the GFA President believes this partnership arrives at a perfect moment. He is confident the long-term benefits will extend beyond coaching improvement to helping Ghana regain prominence on the global stage and achieve stronger consistency in major tournaments.
