Former Ghana Football Association chairman Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has urged the Black Stars technical team to carry out a sweeping rebuild of the squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup, warning that many of the current players lack the quality required for footballs biggest stage.
Ghana missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations their first absence in more than 20 years but secured a return to the World Cup after topping their qualifying group with 25 points.
Even so, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe argues that the team must undergo significant changes if it hopes to advance beyond the group phase in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He insists that most of the players who featured during the qualifiers are not ready for the demands of the World Cup, and has called on head coach Otto Addo and his technical staff to introduce stronger, more competitive options.
We are going to play at the highest stage of football, and if the country wants to progress, then most of the boys who brought us to where we are today are not good players, he told Graphic Sports.
If there are other experienced footballers, we should look for the best that will take us to the World Cup,” he added.
The Black Stars will discover their group-stage opponents when the World Cup draw is held on Friday, November 5.
