Lazio ‘set out a plan’ with Sarri for new buys and stadium project

Lazio director Angelo Maria Fabiani admits Maurizio Sarri has set out a ‘plan’ to sign new players in January and they are working on a new stadium too.

The trip to AC Milan kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s four Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The Biancocelesti have lost just one of their last eight matches, and it was in this very stadium, falling 2-0 to Inter.

That was a rare setback around four wins and three draws in Serie A, despite an on-going injury crisis that adds Danilo Cataldi to Matteo Cancellieri, Nicolò Rovella and Samuel Gigot.

It was decided this week to remove Elseid Hysaj from the squad list, replacing him with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to cover some of the gaps in midfield.

Are Lazio therefore working to bring in reinforcements in January?

“During the break for international duty, we were able to meet with the coach and discussed the situation. We set out a plan to develop, which means helping the squad to grow even more, and identifying those roles the coach asked for,” Fabiani told Sky Sport Italia.

The transfer embargo was imposed because the books were not balanced enough, so are the Aquile planning to sacrifice big players to bring in others?

“If we are talking about reconstruction, we cannot sell players who are functional for the project. The transfer market never rests, but the intention from the President and coach is not to sell the best players.”

Maurizio Sarri said in a Lega Serie A interview that he dreamed of leading Lazio out at the Stadio Flaminio, an arena that was used for rugby and football in the late 1980s, and could be revamped for the Biancocelesti.

“I hope that not just the Flaminio, which the club has been working on for a long time, but something can change throughout Italy. A club like Lazio cannot do without its own stadium now, and that goes for many of the big clubs in Serie A, that is the European model,” added the director.

“I know there are some talks between the club and the council in Rome, and hopefully this dream can come true.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
