Decision time for Man United as Euro giants back in contact over major transfer

Manchester United have reportedly received interest from Napoli in Kobbie Mainoo once again, according to Alfredo Pedulla for Football Italia.

The Serie A giants were really keen on a loan deal for Mainoo during the summer, but Man Utd opted to keep the England international on that occasion.

Still, Pedulla reports that Mainoo remains high up on Napoli’s list of targets, and they’ve once again been in touch about the possibility of a move for the January transfer window.

According to Pedulla: “The situation could now take a different path. Napoli enquired again a few days ago. There is competition, but Mainoo’s name is still at the very top of their wishlist for the January transfer window.”

It will be interesting to see how this pans out as Mainoo is still not playing regularly for Ruben Amorim’s side, and he’ll surely be eager to fix this in the final few months building up to next summer’s World Cup.

Mainoo played for England at Euro 2024 and will be keen to show he’s still good enough to be involved for his country, but it’s just not happening for him at United right now.

Our information has been that Mainoo wants to leave MUFC for more playing time, and the club have been made aware of that.

Simon Phillips has linked Mainoo as a target for Chelsea as well, so there could be other clubs worth watching in the race for the 20-year-old’s signature.

Still, United would probably prefer not to let Mainoo go to a Premier League rival, which might give Napoli the edge.

It’s all a big risk for the Red Devils, though, as there would surely be a big fan backlash if this popular homegrown youngster went on to become a star player for another top club.
