Tottenham’s strong start to the 2025/26 season has kept them firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish, with Thomas Frank’s side showing greater consistency, defensive stability and attacking rhythm compared to last year.

But despite the positive momentum, Spurs are still light in one key area: a natural goalscoring No. 9.

Despite strong contributions from the current attacking group, the club’s recruitment team has continued to search for an elite young striker who can become the focal point of Frank’s system in the years ahead.

Now, one standout name has moved to the top of their list — a player viewed internally as a genuine future superstar.

According to a new report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham have joined the growing list of elite clubs tracking Samu Aghehowa, the highly rated Spanish striker who has emerged as one of Europe’s most dangerous young forwards.

The 21-year-old has been in outstanding form since joining Porto, producing 36 goals in 59 appearances and quickly establishing himself as their main attacking weapon.

His rapid rise has earned widespread admiration, with Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig describing him as “prolific.

Tottenham have been keeping a close eye on Aghehowa’s development and view him as a dream long-term signing. However, any move will require patience, as Porto have no intention of selling during the season.

A source told TEAMtalk: “Samu is the dream. January is a nightmare. Summer 2026 feels far more viable for a move.”

Should Spurs decide to go all-in next summer, they would need to pay around £70 million to secure him — and they won’t be alone, with Chelsea and Manchester United also in the chase.

Samu represents the kind of high-ceiling, marquee striker Tottenham have been eager to build around. While a move can’t happen immediately, Spurs are laying early groundwork for what could become one of next summer’s biggest transfer battles.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
