Manchester United keeping tabs on £100m “star for the future”

Manchester United are in the market to rebuild their midfield over the coming months, and have already been linked to several prospects.

The Red Devils are on a mission to re-establish themselves as top contenders in the Premier League and are desperate for a return to consistent European competition.

Instead, they will remain patient and wait until the summer so they can approach their big targets more comfortably.

There is no doubt that Wharton is one of the most talked-about midfielders in the Premier League, having flourished for Palace and on the international stage with England.

The 21-year-old – hailed as a “star for the future” by Gary Lineker – has gone from strength to strength, playing a key role under Oliver Glasner in South London and developing at a rapid pace.

Alongside Declan Rice and Anderson, he is one of the midfield favourites to be selected in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As a result, it is no wonder Man United are keeping an eye on his progress, as he could be the ideal long-term successor to Casemiro at Old Trafford.

Wharton boasts a range of strengths in the centre of the pitch, including set-piece delivery, through balls and key passes and is renowned for his ball retention even in tight situations.

It is reported that Palace would accept nothing short of £100m to part ways with their talented midfielder, and it would be a worthwhile investment for his potential longevity alone.

With that being said, a move for Wharton will certainly be one to watch for Manchester United fans, but any movement on the midfield rebuild should not be expected until next summer.
