Report: Milan consider shock Thiago Silva return

Milan are being linked with a sensational move for Thiago Silva, with La Repubblica claiming the Rossoneri are weighing up the idea of bringing the 41-year-old centre-back back to San Siro in January.

The club are expected to target an experienced defender in the winter window, with the current group made up of Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlović, Fikayo Tomori, Koni De Winter and youngster Jan-Carlo Odogu, who has played just 11 minutes so far this season.

Milan made unsuccessful attempts in the summer to sign Manuel Akanji from Manchester City, before his eventual switch to Inter, and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez.

With Odogu potentially leaving on loan in January, the search for a fifth senior centre-back has resumed.

According to La Repubblica, via CalcioMercato, the possibility of bringing back Thiago Silva, 13 years after his last appearance for Milan, is gaining traction.

The Brazilian veteran, now at Fluminense, is viewed as someone who could add leadership, stability and an immediate upgrade to the defensive unit, and he also enjoys a long-standing relationship with coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Thiago Silva remains under contract with Fluminense until June 2026 and has been heavily involved this year, making 41 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals.

He played a key role in Fluminense’s impressive Club World Cup run, which included victories over Inter and Al-Hilal before a semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
