Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa is expected to be out for two months, so Napoli need midfield reinforcements, looking to Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Arthur Atta of Udinese or Genoa’s Morten Frendrup.
The news arrived today from an official statement that Anguissa had suffered a high grade lesion to the femoral bicep in the left thigh.
This is more serious than previously thought when he sustained the injury on international duty with Cameroon, and Sky Sport Italia suggest Anguissa will be out of action for circa two months.
With the Africa Cup of Nations coming up too, and Kevin De Bruyne ruled out for three to four months with a not dissimilar injury, Napoli are looking to the January transfer market for reinforcements.
According to Sport Mediaset, the first choice for Antonio Conte would be Atta, who has impressed at Udinese this season and would be worth around €20m.
Another alternative that has been mentioned for months now is Mainoo, as he is not getting playing time for Manchester United.
Crucially, he might be allowed to leave on loan for six months, making him a cheaper option.
The 20-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, with an option to extend for a further season.
Napoli are also interested in Genoa midfielder Frendrup, although he would bring very different characteristics to the table than Anguissa.
