Tonali, Donnarumma and a doubt in attack: Probable Italy XI vs. Moldova

Italy are off to Moldova for a World Cup qualifying fixture in which Sandro Tonali and Gianluigi Donnarumma are expected to start, but it’s still unclear whether Gianluca Scamacca or Mateo Retegui will partner with Giacomo Raspadori up front.

Italy trained at Coverciano this morning ahead of Thursday’s away game in Moldova.

It is the penultimate World Cup qualifying game in Group I before Sunday’s home clash with Norway.

As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, Gennaro Gattuso is expected to pick an attacking 4-4-2 system with Riccardo Orsolini and Mattia Zaccagni on the wings.

Tonali is on a yellow card, so he’ll miss Sunday’s game against Norway to avoid a possible suspension in the playoffs and is expected to start tomorrow.

The Newcastle star will reportedly join Bryan Cristante in central midfield.

Atletico Madrid forward Raspadori is fit to start and will partner with either Scamacca or Retegui.

Nicolò Cambiaghi won’t be available due to a minor calf injury, while Riccardo Calafiori trained separately this morning due to a hip issue.

Probable Italy XI vs. Moldova – Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Dimarco; Orsolini, Cristante, Tonali, Zaccagni; Raspadori, Scamacca/Retegui.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
