Ex-Napoli striker feels players want to ‘get rid’ of Conte

Former Napoli striker Roberto Sosa believes Partenopei players no longer want to play under Conte, as he feels their 2-0 loss against Bologna was ‘the typical match you see when the players want to get rid of the coach.’

Napoli suffered a 2-0 loss at the Stadio Dall’Ara against Bologna on Sunday, seeing Roma and Inter overtake them at the top of the Serie A table.

The Partenopei are now level on 22 points with Milan, two points below the leading pair.

Antonio Conte’s side have only won two of the last five games across all competitions and have not scored a goal in the last three.

The Italian tactician noted at full-time that the “positive energy” of last season had disappeared, but according to ex-Napoli striker Sosa, there’s an even bigger problem in the Napoli dressing room.

“It’s the typical match you see when the players want to get rid of the coach,” Sosa said during ‘La Partita dei campioni’ on Tele A (via Calciomercato.com).

“The players weren’t even angry despite being two goals down, and I’ve said this before about other teams. Today, I have to say it about Napoli.”

Sosa spent four years at Napoli, from 2004 to 2008, scoring 30 goals in 131 matches and contributing to promotions from Serie C1 to Serie A.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
