Serie A | Parma 1-3 Bologna: Castro overturns 10 men in fiery derby

Parma scored after 12 seconds, but it was all downhill from there with two injuries and a red card, as Santiago Castro’s brace and a Juan Miranda strike turned it around for Bologna.

The Ducali were smarting after a narrow midweek defeat to Roma, with Mandela Keita, Gaetano Oristanio and Emanuele Valeri sustaining knocks, plus long-term absentees Matija Frigan and Jacob Ondrejka. Ciro Immobile was the only remaining Rossoblu absentee, as Emil Holm returned from suspension. Unbeaten in six Serie A games, coach Vincenzo Italiano was released from hospital on October 28, but stayed indoors rather than on the bench after recovering from pneumonia.

Incredibly, Parma broke the deadlock within 12 seconds of the Emilia-Romagna Derby. A long Zion Suzuki ball found Adrian Bernabé for a shot charged down, Mateo Pellegrino kept it alive for the midfielder to fire in the rebound from 12 yards. Incredibly, this was only the third-fastest Serie A goal on record.

A wayward Riccardo Orsolini volley turned into an assist for Jens Odgaard to nod over from close range, then the Italian drilled inches wide of the near post on another promising attack.

Britschgi nearly doubled Parma’s lead on 15 minutes, his screamer from distance smashing against the crossbar with Lukasz Skorupski beaten.

Moments later, Bologna earned their equaliser, as Orsolini sent Holm down the right and he rolled across for Santiago Castro to tap in from four yards, having got in front of his marker.

The hosts lost Nahuel Estevez to injury and Bologna nearly turned it around when Tommaso Pobega sent Castro through, but the first attempt was parried by the on-rushing Zion Suzuki, then the rebound was fired over.

Moments later, Parma went down to 10 men, as Christian Ordonez was already on a yellow card when he brought down Odgaard during a counter-attack.

Bologna kept pushing, an acrobatic Odgaard half-volley from the edge of the area whistling just wide.

It went from bad to worse for Parma, who also lost Alessandro Circati to an ankle injury after his brave sliding tackle on Pobega.

Odgaard wasted another golden opportunity straight after the restart, blasting over when sent clear by Jonathan Rowe.

Parma down to 10 men still threatened to restore their advantage, as Adrian Benedyczak sprung the offside trap and flashed the angled drive across the face of goal.

Remo Freuler went off with a shoulder injury, just before the heavens opened for a huge thunderstorm over the Stadio Tardini, which made play rather difficult.

It was in these conditions that Bologna scored, as a Juan Miranda cross from the left hit a series of players to ricochet around in a crowd of players, allowing Castro to fire in eventually from six yards.

Thijs Dallinga had his blushes spared by the offside flag after hitting the crossbar with only the goalkeeper to beat, missing a sitter. He also failed to keep a header on target from Cambiaghi’s cross at the near post.

Bologna did get a third in stoppages, as Juan Miranda got down the left and fired in from a seemingly improbable angle with his left foot, blasting it into the roof of the net. It was the full-back’s first goal in two years.
