Bjorkegren praises young Black Queens squad after WAFCON qualification

Black Queens head coach Kim Bjorkegren has praised his youthful squad following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the team’s progress as a sign of a promising future.Ghana sealed their spot at next year’s tournament in Morocco after beating Egypt 7-0 on aggregate in the final qualifying round.Speaking after the match, Bjorkegren highlighted the team’s growth and experience since winning bronze at the 2024 WAFCON."If you take in a WAFCON, it was a long time ago that a women’s team won a bronze medal," he said. "And for many of the players, that was their first WAFCON, maybe about 18 players or so. With that experience, of course, it’s going to help us in the future. We are a young and new team, and this group is just getting better and better."The Swedish coach expressed optimism that the team’s development would continue as they prepare for next year’s continental competition.
