Liverpool are keen on Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. Semenyo has been one of the Premier League standout performers this season, bagging six goals out of the first eight games.
He is second in scoring only behind Erling Haaland as Bournemouth sit third in the table. The Ghana international was the subject of much interest this summer with Manchester United and Tottenham reportedly enquiring about his availability.
Both were unwilling to meet Bournemouth’s asking price of £75m, and The Mirror reports that Liverpool could now be willing to move into pole position. The defending champions have struggled to recreate last season’s form despite spending over Over £450m on new signings this summer.
They lost four on the bounce before snapping their streak in Wednesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Frankfurt in the Champions League. A notable absence from the starting XI in that game was Mohamed Salah, who many believe has suffered a dip in form this season.
After a rampant 2024/2025 campaign where he scored 29 goals in 38 Premier League games, Salah has looked out of sorts this season and has returned just three goals in 11 games across all competitions. He is without a non-penalty goal in the league since opening night in August, and has come under fire from sections of the Anfield supporters.
He was notably ineffective in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last Sunday, prompting manager Arne Slot to rotate him for midweek’s Champion’s League clash. The Mirror adds that Liverpool could be keen to bring in Semenyo as a long term replacement for Salah who is now 33.
Semenyo is eight years Salah’s junior and signed a five-year contract extension with the Cherries in July. The deal reportedly includes a release clause, although the exact number is unknown.
Ghana’s failure to qualify for January’s African Cup of Nations could provide another incentive for a deal, as there are no fears of losing the player for an extended period of time.
The two clubs have an amicable relationship, with Liverpool completing the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth over the summer. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes also previously worked as technical director at Bournemouth.
