Capello: Chivu had the ‘most delicate’ Inter mission

Fabio Capello praises Cristian Chivu and highlights the team’s unity under the new coach: ‘He has completed the most important, yet most delicate mission.’

The Nerazzurri have collected six consecutive wins across all competitions, including a recent 1-0 victory against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Inter are now second, level on points with Napoli and Roma, and just one point below leaders Milan.

“Yes, now we can say it. This is Chivu’s Inter,” Capello wrote in his Gazzetta dello Sport editorial.

“Watching them play is a true spectacle. It’s beautiful to see the players gather around their coach like they did the other night at the Olimpico. That perfectly captures the bond that has been created. It’s just as beautiful to watch the Nerazzurri play because everything is now working wonderfully and the team keeps growing. Match after match, victory after victory.

“This is Chivu’s Inter because now every player, from Lautaro to Barella, from Bastoni to Calhanoglu and Dimarco, all the way to explosive young talents like Bonny and Pio Esposito, is perfectly in tune with Cristian,” continued the ex-coach.

“In just a few months of work, he has completed the most important, yet most delicate mission entrusted to him by President Marotta and the entire club. The erase memories and banish the ghosts of last season’s finale.

“Today’s Inter is a hungry team once again, winning with strength, intensity, humility, and an immense spirit of sacrifice. Chivu has involved everyone in the project, and the results are evident on the pitch. From Sommer to Zielinski, every Inter player feels part of the group and is committed to serving the team.”

Capello is also impressed by the team’s playing style and not just their mentality.

“Inter are also winning because they finally have two valid alternatives to Lautaro and Thuram, and the credit must be shared,” he wrote.

“Inter now think vertically, press high, and have finally minimised the obsession with building up from the back for its own sake.

“I find this to be a very, very important change in perspective, when players get used to always playing the ball to the goalkeeper or making sideways passes, they end up running away from responsibility. Chivu, on the other hand, by asking them to go forward and play vertically as much as possible, is holding them accountable. His men, as the true champions they are, have embraced this new path.

“That’s why I am convinced that Inter fans can look to the future with great optimism.”

The Nerazzurri have also won two games from two in the Champions League and visit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21.
