Video: Alexander Isak’s Liverpool goal drought continues with bad miss against Man United

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak is continuing to struggle to hit the kind of form that made him the Premier League’s most expensive signing ever when he joined from Newcastle United this summer.

Isak cost a British transfer record fee of £125m, as reported by BBC Sport at the time, and few were questioning that at the time after his world class performances at Newcastle.

Still, it’s been a poor start to this season for the Sweden international, who only has one goal for Liverpool so far, while he’s on a run of no goals in his last five games, potentially six if he can’t find the back of the net today.

See below for this big chance Isak would surely have buried last season, but which was saved here by Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens…

United will be relieved to still be ahead after a huge opportunity like this, and Lammens did pretty well to keep it out, even if Isak also surely should’ve done better.

Liverpool went behind in the first minute of the game as Bryan Mbeumo fired in past Giorgi Mamardashvili, but it’s been a pretty even game since then.

The visitors have had chances to extend their lead, but the home side have also come back well and had a penalty shout at one point, though it was turned away.

Cody Gakpo hit the post and Isak missed this chance, so it’s vital that the LFC forwards put their finishing boots on for the second half or they’re facing a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

United will not have been the favourites before this game, but they’ve done a decent job so far and may well be confident of holding on for all three points.

couldn’t happen to a better excus3 for a man .
Alexander Isarat was only as good as the service he got from Murphy and the expert tutelage he got from Eddie H .

Skinny gold digging rat is finding out that a great team is the sum of all of its parts , not just one big headed over-confident back-stabbing rat . Alex is a very nieve over confident fool who threw away his chance for greatness, as without Eddie Howe as his manager Isarat is nothing

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
