Tottenham could find themselves in the market for a striker in January amid uncertainty surrounding Richarlison’s future. The Brazilian continues to be linked with a move away from the club, with MLS side Orlando City pushing for his signature.
Richarlison has had to deputize in the No.9 role as Dominic Solanke and new signing Randal Kolo Muani continue to be sidelined through injury. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in seven Premier League appearances so far this season but has opened the door to a departure by holding talks with Orlando City.
FootballInsider has reported that Tottenham could now be “forced” to spend big in January for a striker, with the groundwork for a deal already being laid. While no concrete interest has been formalized at the moment, Spurs are known admirers of Porto ace Samu Aghehowa and young Brazilian wonderkid Rayan from Vasco da Gama.
The former would come with a hefty £86m release clause. The fee collected for Richarlison will likely play a big part in how much Spurs are able to spend.
Tottenham will face competition for Samu, with the 21-year-old Spain international continuing his fine form from last season. He has scored five goals in his first six appearances.
He has 32 goals and three assists in 52 total appearances since joining Porto in 2024 from Atletico Madrid. He is regarded as one the world’s brightest young strikers for his pace and power.
Spurs have struggled to find a long term No.9 since the departure of long time talisman Harry Kane in 2023. Dominic Solanke was signed in 2024 but has been unable to replicate his prolific Bournemouth form.
Injuries have also derailed Solanke’s time at the club, with his most recent knock sidelining him for much of the 2025/2026 season. He has not featured since Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City on August 23.
