Tottenham are preparing a sensational move to bring their former talisman Harry Kane back to north London next summer. The England captain departed Tottenham for Bayern Munich in 2023 after 9 seasons with Spurs.
He struck 213 Premier League goals during that time, and sits second on the all time leading goal scorer list behind Alan Shearer’s 260. TeamTalk has reported that Spurs are ready to “break the bank” to sign Kane, with the player eager to return to the Premier League and overtake Shearer.
Kane would need 48 goals to break the record, a number he could feasibly hit in two seasons back in the Premier League. Tottenham’s owners, ENIC, are prepared to inject enough cash to cover Kane’s release clause as well as match his substantial wages, in a bid to mark a statement of intent.
Spurs hierarchy believe new manager Thomas Frank has lifted the squad, and are looking to add a marquee signing to match the manager’s ambition.
Kane notably did not win any major trophy during his time at Tottenham, which many believed led him to depart the club for Bayern Munich. His trophyless run continued during his first season with the Bundesliga club, but he got his reward last season when they lifted the Bundesliga crown and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
With Bayern in a strong position to retain their title this season, Kane could enter next summer’s transfer window as a two-time Bundesliga champion. He may then feel the time is right to return to the Premier League.
Rumours of a return to the Premier League for Kane started to surface when it was revealed in September that his contract contains a £57m release clause. Tottenham as well as Manchester United were the teams most mentioned.
United would likely need to improve their current mid-table position and achieve European football for next season though to stand a chance.
Kane has just under two years remaining on his contract at Bayern Munich.
