Sunday’s reports confirm that Alessandro Bastoni is set to leave the Italy national team training camp and return to Inter on Monday following his yellow card during Saturday’s 3-1 win away against Estonia.
Bastoni has played every minute of Italy’s World Cup qualifying campaign so far, but will be ineligible to feature against Israel in Udine on Sunday through suspension.
The Nerazzurri centre-back picked up his second yellow card of the World Cup qualification campaign during the 3-1 win over Estonia on Saturday evening. He was also booked when the two sides met in September, which resulted in a 5-0 win for Italy in what was Gennaro Gattuso’s first game in charge.
With two yellow cards to his name in World Cup qualifying, Bastoni will now have to serve a one-match suspension when Italy take on Israel in Udine on Tuesday night. He will be eligible to return against Moldova on November 13.
According to reports from TMW, Bastoni travelled back to Italy with the rest of the national team squad, but wanted to spend his Sunday with the squad. He had lunch with the rest of the players and also attended Sunday’s training session.
He will leave the camp and return to his club on Monday.
It remains to be seen whether Moise Kean will follow him out of the exit door. The Fiorentina striker scored after four minutes against Estonia, but was forced off with an injury shortly afterwards.
