Basel vs. Stuttgart Europa League preview: Team news and predicted lineups

Stuttgart were more comfortable than the 2-1 scoreline suggested against Celta Vigo last week, with Sebastian Hoeneß’s men fully controlling the clash until a late strike from Borja Iglesias. 

After being knocked out of last year’s Champions League early, Die Schwaben are aiming for a much deeper run in the Europa League, with the side qualifying as a result of last term’s DFB-Pokal triumph. 

After Basel made the trip to Baden-Württemberg last week, they now welcome Stuttgart to St. Jakob-Park. And while the distance is not as small as that between Basel and Freiburg, Stuttgart will be backed by huge numbers, making the short trip over the Swiss border.

VfB picked up their third win in just over a week at the weekend, with Josha Vagnoman striking late in a 2-1 win against FC Köln. 

Hoeneß’s side have responded well after a shaky start to the campaign, and a fourth win in a row would make an early statement in the Europa League.

While Deniz Undav remains out after his early substitution against Borussia Mönchengladbach in August, the forward is continuing to pick up the pace in training.
