On Sunday, Niko Kovac’s Borussia Dortmund will host the coach’s previous club as VfL Wolfsburg hope to extend their unbeaten start to the season. Dortmund could welcome a return of Nico Schlotterbeck this weekend, although Fabio Silva is still scheduled to make his debut at the beginning of October.
Schlotterbeck was arguably Dortmund’s best defender last season, but he missed the Club World Cup due to a serious injury. The German international was fully involved in training sessions this week.
“He was fully involved in player set training today,” said Kovac on Friday about his center-back. “Let’s see how he feels on Saturday. If things go well, he’ll be an option for Wolfsburg,”
Fabio Silva also completed parts of the team training on Friday, but Kovac plans the home game against RB Leipzig for the debut of his marquee signing. Dortmund came off a disappointing draw in Turin after conceding two injury-time goals in a 4-4 draw with Juventus.
