Building up to their meeting with Mainz this Saturday, FC Augsburg coach Sandro Wagner addressed the media in his press conference on how he plans to approach the game.
“Every weekend is a new benchmark for us; we want to show what we’re capable of. In our second home game, we now have the chance to secure our first win in front of our fans; that’s our clear goal — I have a good good feeling about that.
“We’ve come up with the game plan for tomorrow together—with the team and my coaching staff. We’re flexible, trying to get the most out of the team every day, and will have a top eleven on the pitch tomorrow as well.
“It’s the small details that make the difference on the pitch—we saw that last week in Hamburg. We want to win these 50/50 situations in the future, especially in front of our own fans—we’re on the right track,” he said.
There was a mixed bag of fortunes on the personnel front for Wagner to deliver. A handful of names remain sidelined, but two players have returned in time for Saturday.
“[Anton] Kade and [Dimitros] Giannoulis are still injured, will not be in the squad for the upcoming clash and will be missed. Good news, however, [Keven] Schlotterbeck is fit and back on board.
“Alexis [Claude-Maurice] was out for a total of six weeks, so I can’t say to what extent he’s at 100%. He’s feeling good, and he’s making a good impression in training.
