Player ratings: Monaco 0-0 Juventus – Perin the best of the bunch

Vandersen and Mattia Perin were among the standout performers as Juventus settled for a 0-0 draw away against AS Monaco in the final match of the 2025-26 Champions League league phase on Wednesday evening.

The Bianconeri had already secured a spot in the Champions League play-offs, unlike their hosts, and Luciano Spalletti was well aware of the fact that he needed favours from several sides if Juventus were to end up in the top eight, even with a victory at the Stade Louis II.

You can see how the action unfolded on the Football Italia Liveblog.

Monaco: Koehn 6; Vanderson 7, Kekrer 6, Teze 6, C.Henrique 6.5; Zakaria 6, Camara 6; Akliouche 6, Coulibaly 5 (Bamba 6), Golovin 6 (Ouattara n/a); Balogun 6.

Best Monaco player: Vanderson 7 – A really impressive display from the Brazilian right-back, particularly from an attacking point of view. He was a constant threat on the overlap, registered three shots from full-back and had arguably the best effort of the game, drawing a big save out of Perin at his near post.

Coach: Sebastian Pocognoli 6 – In the end, his side did enough to qualify for the Champions League play-offs, but he will be slightly disappointed that his side failed to convert any of their chances, especially against a Juventus side who had nowhere near as much to play for.

Juventus: Perin 6; Kalulu 6, Bremer 6, Kelly 5.5, Cabal 6 (Cambiaso 6); Koopmeiners 5 (Zhegrova 6), Thuram 6 (David n/a); Conceicao 5.5 (Yildiz 6), Miretti 5.5 (Adzic 6), McKennie 6; Openda 5.

Best Juventus player: Mattia Perin 6 – Slim pickings in what was a fairly lacklustre display from the Bianconeri, who failed to register a shot on target. Perin did his job well, though, and made sure that the Bianconeri avoided defeat and came away with a clean sheet. Decent saves on Vanderson and Balogun.

Coach: Luciano Spalletti 5 – From the off, even from the team selection, it looked as though Spalletti would be happy with a point. No Yildiz in the starting line-up, nor Cambiaso, Locatelli or David.

Juventus always knew that a top eight finish was out of their hands, even with a victory on the night. They also knew that a play-off position was secure, while Monaco still had it all to play for. In that sense, Spalletti and his team did well to see off the competition from the Monegasque outfit, but the Bianconeri were poor going forwards: Their only shot of the second half came in the 94th minute and they didn’t register a single attempt on target from start to finish.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
