Official: Pjanic announces retirement – ‘This symphony has been my life’

Former Roma and Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has officially confirmed that he has decided to hang up his boots and call it a day on his professional career at the age of 35: ‘This symphony has been my life, it has been an honour to share it with you’.

Pjanic had been without a club since leaving CSKA Moscow at the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Bosnian spent the bulk of his senior career in Serie A with 159 Serie A appearances for Roma between 2011 and 2016, and 122 with Juventus between 2016 and 2020. He made 363 competitive appearances between the Giallorossi and Bianconeri.

Pjanic also managed a whopping 115 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is one of only two players to have surpassed the 100-cap milestone for his nation, along with former Roma, Inter and Fiorentina striker Edin Dzeko, who holds the all-time record with 146 caps.

Pjanic retires with four Serie A titles to his name, two Coppa Italia medals, a Supercoppa Italiana trophy, a Copa del Rey, a Turkish Super Cup and a Russian Cup. He was also part of the Juventus squad that made it to the Champions League final in 2016-17.

“I spent my life playing my melody,” Pjanic wrote in a retirement announcement on Instagram

“Every touch, every pass, every shot: a note. Football was my music, the field my piano. My dream has always been to make you hear the beauty of this game.

“Today, with a heart full of gratitude, I can say that this symphony has been my life. It has been an honor to share it with all of you. A special thank you goes to my family, who have been my first support and my silent strength.

“To the coaches, my teammates, with whom I’ve shared dreams, sacrifices, and victories. To the technical staff, the doctors, and everyone who worked behind the scenes. To the fans, the soul of this game.

“Thank you all for being part of this music.”

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
