Arsenal have been tipped to make a huge move in the transfer window, as one of their reported targets views north London as an ideal destination.
The Gunners’ reputation amongst European heavyweights has been transformed over recent years, with Mikel Arteta guiding his side from successive mid-table finishes to regular title challenges.
While Arsenal are yet to repeat the success of their famous 2003/04 Invincibles side, the north Londoners have equipped one of the continent’s best sides, as evidenced by the strong start to their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
And another consequence of their undeniable progress under Arteta is the elevated calibre of players being linked with the club.
This has been laid bare by a recent report that claims Arsenal could be in the running for a blockbuster move in the upcoming windows.
Credible source Bayern Space (as relayed by TEAMtalk) has alleged that Jamal Musiala’s most recent contract renewal holds the key towards a potential future approach from Europe’s biggest clubs, amid interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.
The report claims that not only is there ‘growing interest’ from the London duo, but it is thought that Musiala considers the Premier League as ‘the most realistic destination’.
That is also partly down to Barcelona’s financial insecurities, which significantly hamper their ability to outlay large sums, particularly when going up against Premier League sides.
The intriguing aspect of Musiala’s contract that could be piquing the interest of Arsenal and Chelsea is how it has a release clause that decreases in each transfer window.
Currently at £127.5m, it will drop to £115m in the summer of 2027 – which was earmarked as a ‘realistic departure window’ – while there appears to have been some form of dialogue behind the scenes, though details on this are vague.
Should these claims come to pass, everything is set up for Arsenal to make a bid for the former Chelsea academy star in the not-too-distant future.
While 2027 was highlighted as a more likely departure date, there doesn’t appear to be anything stopping a team with Arsenal’s – or indeed, Chelsea’s – finances activating Musiala’s release clause in the summer.
Thanks to Liverpool’s £130m signing of Alexander Isak last summer, it would not even reach British record levels, while domestic and/or European success between now and then could make all the difference in approaching the attacking midfielder in six months’ time rather than 18.
For Arsenal, the main consideration would surely be where Musiala would fit into their squad.
Luckily, Musiala has showcased his versatility during his short senior career thus far, suggesting he could add to the depth that has been a key component of Arsenal’s success this term.
As per Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has been deployed in seven different positions since his Bayern debut in June 2020, handing Arteta a useful squad member who can immediately challenge the team’s established stars.
