Manchester United have enquired about Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. The Red Devils are known to be on the market for midfield reinforcements amid speculation surrounding the long term futures of many of their midfield stars.
Links to several top names have continued to make the rounds including Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. While moves for any of those players would be costly and more likely suited for the summer window, United is also considering a loan signing this winter to bolster their hopes of Champions League qualification.
United have now been on the hunt for immediate reinforcements, and have begun contacts with several midfielders. Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a move to United this winter, as well as former Chelsea man Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Casado is now the latest name to be added to that list. The player is highly rated by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick but is reportedly considering his future after struggling for minutes.
The La Masia graduate has made 38 La Liga appearances for Barca since breaking into the first team in 2022, with injuries derailing much of his time at the club. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that while Atletico Madrid is leading the race for Casado, United has also expressed interest in the player alongside Wolves.
Casado is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes who is understood to have close relations at Manchester United. The player has been discussed with United hierarchy.
The Spain international is understood to prefer to stay at his boyhood club however, making any potential move difficult. United could be boosted by the fact that the player would prioritize a move abroad if he were to leave Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Casado has featured in 19 matches for Barcelona this season, starting 10 of them. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate in a box-to-box role.
