Nottingham Forest are facing a tough season in the Premier League, hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th place.

Last term, the club enjoyed a remarkable campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo, securing a European spot for the first time in years. However, Santo’s relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis soured, leading to his dismissal.

Ange Postecoglou was brought in as his replacement but lasted only eight games, leaving the team in disarray.

Under Sean Dyche, Forest have shown signs of improvement, but survival remains far from guaranteed.

With the January transfer window approaching, the Reds are looking to strengthen their squad, and one target is reportedly close to joining.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest are on the verge of finalising a loan move for Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca, with personal terms reportedly agreed and an option to buy included.

Lucca, 25, has spent the season on loan with Napoli, scoring once in 16 Serie A appearances. Despite his modest return, Forest are hoping his physical presence and ability to hold up play can provide a much-needed boost in attack.

Romano posted on X: “Nottingham Forest and Napoli agreed all terms of Lorenzo Lucca deal for €1m loan plus €35m buy option. #NFFC made financially best salary proposal so far after many clubs’ calls these weeks.”

The decision now rests with the striker, who scout Jacek Kulig once described as a “complete” forward.

Forest are in urgent need of goals to maintain their Premier League status. Lucca’s record this season may not be prolific, but under Dyche’s system, his style as a target man could make him a crucial addition for the fight against relegation.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
