Spurs are being linked with a Premier League forward as they bid to fix their attacking woes.
Thomas Frank’s side were undone once again at the weekend, with West Ham piling more misery on the Dane as the Lilywhites sit in 14th place.
Following their ninth defeat of the Premier League season, the campaign is continuing to unravel for Frank, who will be battling to see out the remainder of the window as he attempts to bolster his squad.
But even if he does manage to last in the Spurs hotseat past the transfer deadline, Frank might not be able to bring in one of the club’s main attacking targets from his former club.
According to CaughtOffside, Spurs are firmly in the race to sign Kevin Schade from Brentford.
The German is, of course, well known to Thomas Frank, who signed him from Freiburg in 2023.
In west London, Schade became one of Frank’s trusted stars, with the ex-Bees boss delighted with his work rate, pace and output towards the end of last season.
Schade is on course to mark his best goalscoring season in the Premier League, with six goals to his name as he chases down his record of 11 from 2024/25.
In the Spurs team, only Richarlison has more top-flight goals this term.
The report linking Spurs with Schade notes that the Lilywhites “really like” the winger, though Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also been linked.
It had been reported that ex-sporting director Fabio Paratici had laid the foundations for a transfer, but despite his recent departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Schade remains a firm favourite among the recruitment team.
The bad news for Spurs – and perhaps more pertinently, Frank – is that Schade is unlikely to be sold before the January window shuts in little over two weeks’ time.
The Bees may well entertain a move for as much as €60m (£52m) in the summer, though where Spurs find themselves at that point, particularly in relation to the other interested clubs and Brentford, is anyone’s guess.
All things considered, you’d be forgiven for being sceptical about Schade joining a Spurs side fronted by Frank instead of a Champions League-chasing Villa or Newcastle.
If there is any silver lining amid Tottenham’s gloomy form, it’s that they continue to aim ambitiously in the transfer market, and their recent capture of Conor Gallagher proves they still have pulling power.
