Player ratings: Como 1-3 Milan – Rossoneri have Rabiot and Maignan to thank

Milan have Adrien Rabiot and Mike Maignan to thank after picking up a 3-1 victory away against a Como side who had dominated in terms of possession and shots on goal at the Stadio Sinigaglia. 

The hosts were headed into an early lead thanks to Marc-Oliver Kempf, but the German was also at fault for giving away a penalty just before half-time, which let Milan back into the game just before the interval. A second-half brace from Adrien Rabiot, including a third in the 87th minute, put the game beyond any doubt.

Best Como player: Nico Paz 7 – Denied by Maignan and the woodwork, it was another all-action display from the Argentina international, who worked his socks off in all phases of the game, including in defence. He managed to complete more tackles than any other player on the pitch (5), and that is aside from his impressive attacking display. 

Coach: Cesc Fabregas 6.5 – The Spaniard will be perplexed as to how his team did not go in for half-time at least one goal up. It was a slightly clumsy challenge in the area that led to Milan’s equaliser from the penalty spot, and the hosts were in complete control of the attacking proceedings in the first half. Maignan was solid, Como did strike the woodwork, but they might need to work on their clinical nature in front of goal: They had 18 shots across the 90, and only one went in.

Best Milan player: Rabiot 8 – A monumental effort from the Frenchman, who was involved in all three of Milan’s goals on the night. He – quite cleverly – won the penalty that got Milan level on the stroke of half-time, finished like a centre-forward after being teed up by Rafael Leao 10 minutes into the second half, and scored a long-range goal out of nowhere to put the game to bed three minutes from time. 

Coach: Allegri 6 – The Rossoneri tactician will not be best pleased with the performance he saw during the first half, but like all good sides, Milan somehow managed to find a win without playing at their best. The stats tell the story of this game: Como dominated in terms of possession, pass accuracy, shots on goal and completed dribbles, but the Rossoneri were the ones who made their chances count, converting three times from just four shots on target.
