Joao Pedro has broken his silence to explain why he has decided to turn down a proposal for a return to Serie A with Pisa.
The striker had been on the verge of making his comeback to Italy, where had spent four years representing Cagliari and even earned one cap for the Azzurri.
Pisa were prepared to pay the release clause in his contract with Atletico San Luis, which is set at circa €3.5m, and a medical was planned for Sunday.
However, the 33-year-old confirmed that the proposal was ready to go and yet rejected for a very personal reason.
“Over the last few days, there has been a lot of talk about my future,” wrote Joao Pedro on social media.
“I want to thank Pisa and all the people involved in these negotiations from the bottom of my heart, for the professionalism and respect they showed.
“However, at this moment I am happy here, and that is a wonderful feeling. My mind is here, and it is where it will remain.”
The 33-year-old Italo-Brazilian scored 13 goals in 18 matches in the Mexican league this season.
After leaving Cagliari in 2022, he played for Fenerbahce, Gremio and Hull City, moving to San Luis as a free agent in July 2025.
