Arsenal have made contact with the club of a South American starlet as they explore a potential transfer.
The Gunners are seeking their first top-flight title since 2004 and could look to consolidate their advantage at the Premier League summit with some key additions this month.
Mikel Arteta has previously put the January transfer window to good use, with the likes of Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard making mid-season Arsenal debuts in the past.
However, it appears that recent reports are suggesting the Gunners are also looking to the future, as a Brazilian wonderkid previously linked with Chelsea and Manchester United has emerged on the north Londoners’ radar.
According to Brazil’s TNT Sports (via Sport Witness), Arsenal have made contact with Corinthians over a potential move for 20-year-old midfielder Breno Bidon.
The Gunners stopped short of making an official approach, pointing towards a future pursuit of the youngster, who was a regular throughout Corinthians’ 2025 league campaign, as well as their journey to Copa do Brasil glory.
Bidon is heavily courted by clubs in Brazil and across Europe, while his contract still has three and a half years to run, handing Corinthians a possible advantage if they were to enter negotiations any time soon.
Arsenal appear to be in no rush to sign the midfielder, but in ‘seeking information’ with the Brazilian outfit, this is a potential signal of the direction they could head toward in the years to come.
On the surface, the N5 club’s approach makes sense. Of their current central midfielders, Martin Zubimendi is the youngest at 26, while the more attack-minded Ethan Nwaneri is an outlier in his position at 18.
So this could be a case of Arsenal sounding out candidates as they undergo succession planning for a midfield that will be past its peak within a few years.
Signing Breno Bidon would therefore freshen things up from a youthful perspective, and he is clearly ruffling feathers in Europe given the level of interest.
As well as his willing suitors in England, clubs in Italy and Portugal have been noted as taking a liking towards the youngster.
And despite his tender years, he has wowed scouts, with analyst Sergey Malashenko noting his “exceptional” close control and “excellent” vision.
Bidon’s versatility was also named as an asset, with his adeptness in offensive and defensive midfield positions making him an ideal addition for Europe’s top sides if he can continue to impress.
While Arsenal are not alone in their interest, their timely return to the heights of English and European football should stand them in good stead if Bidon is made to choose where his future ultimately lies.
